Tarheel Woodworks
I am Jeff Martin. Thank you for your interest in my work. It gives me great pleasure uncovering the beauty that God has placed in each piece of wood! It is humbling to think that in some small way I get to peek inside His handiwork at the amazing gifts He has created for us, and I enjoy sharing those findings with you. I do not really consider myself an artist, but more of a craftsman. I have always been drawn to woodworking, going back to my childhood. It seems like my father and grandfather always had some kind of project in the works, and I loved being right there with them.
Woodworking has always been an outlet for me. It is usually a good stress reliever from a busy workweek. The creative aspects of it are a welcome contrast to the monotony of the day job. I enjoy the freedom of discovering new techniques and skills, as well as the seemingly endless varieties of wood available today. While I enjoy all areas of woodworking, I especially like turning wood on the lathe. It has an almost immediate level of satisfaction that is hard to find in other things.
I love living in this area of North Carolina. I grew up in a rural corner of Person County in a community called Bushy Fork. In college I met the love of my life and followed her back here. We have lived in Morganton for more than 25 years. It has been a great place to make our home and to raise our two children.
